Product Name: Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride Injection
Strength: 0.5 mg/mL(Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride 0.5 mg per mL)
Indications:
For use as a sedative and analgesic in dogs and cats to facilitate clinical examinations, clinical procedures, minor surgical procedures, and minor dental procedures. Also indicated for use as a preanesthetic to general anesthesia in dogs and cats.
Active Ingredient
Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride – A synthetic alpha₂-adrenoceptor agonist with sedative and analgesic properties.
Each mL contains: Methylparaben 1.6 mg, Propylparaben 0.2 mg, Sodium Chloride 9.0 mg, Water for Injection q.s.
pH adjusted with Hydrochloric Acid or Sodium Hydroxide as needed.
Dosage and Administration
For Dogs

Note: The mcg/kg dosage decreases as body weight increases. Accurate dosing is not possible in dogs

Administration Instructions
1.It is recommended that animals be fasted for 12 hours before treatment
2.An eye lubricant should be applied to cats to prevent corneal desiccation due to reduced blink reflex
3.Following injection, allow the animal to rest quietly for 15 minutes
4.Sedation and analgesia occur within 5 to 15 minutes, with peak effects at 30 minutes after administration

Contraindications
Do not use in animals with:
Cardiovascular disease
Respiratory disorders
Liver or kidney diseases
Shock, severe debilitation, or stress due to extreme heat, cold or fatigue

Precautions
1.This is a prescription drug and must be used under veterinary supervision
2.Apnea may occur; additional oxygen should be supplied if needed
3.Atipamezole may be used to reverse the effects of dexmedetomidine in dogs (reverses both sedative and analgesic effects)
4.In cats, atipamezole has not been evaluated as a routine reversal agent
5.Nervous or excited animals may exhibit reduced pharmacological response
6.Anticholinergic agents (e.g., atropine) given simultaneously with or after dexmedetomidine is not
recommended (may cause adverse cardiovascular effects)
7.Do not use in animals with preexisting hypotension, hypoxia, or bradycardia
8.Keep out of reach of children
